O'Sullivan PR named top PR firm
O'Sullivan PR has been voted PR Company of the Year in the 2007 Cork Meteor Business Awards. The company received its accolade at an awards ceremony held on 22 November last.

Senior management changes at Wilson Hartnell
Wilson Hartnell Public Relations - which is part of the Ogilvy Group - has announced the appointment of Brian Bell as Managing Director from 01 January next. He will also be joining the Ogilvy Group Board. Brian will succeed Roddy Guiney, who is becoming Executive Chairman of the company. Roddy will continue working on a full-time basis, focusing on WHPR's extensive sports portfolio.

Former Union leader is appointed chairperson of DHR Communications
DHR Communications has announced the appointment of former ICTU General Secretary, Peter Cassells, as its company chairperson. Established in 2004 by former Labour Party advisors Catherine Heaney and Dermot Ryan, D HR Communications offers public relations, public affairs and consultation management services to organisations working to bring about positive change. In his role as Chairman, Peter will take an active role in running the company, particularly in the area of consultation management.

New office manager at Elevate PR
Andrina Coll has recently been appointed Office Manager at Elevate Public Relations. Andrina joins Elevate after two years with Plunkett Communications where she was a PR assistant. In this newly created role, Andrina will support the team at Elevate on an everyday office management basis.

Due to a number of new account wins, Unique Media, the Rathmines-based PR, advertising and media training consultancy, is seeking a motivated and results driven PR account executive to join our existing team and work with a wide ranging portfolio of clients including the Irish Book Awards, Dublin's Q102, Beat 102-103, Manpower Ireland, Synergy Centre at the Institute of Technology in Tallaght, ONS Ireland, Thornsett Group and Ros na Rún.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 18 months agency experience. Interested candidates must demonstrate:

Consumer Account Manager and Corporate Account Director, Edelman

Development Director (two-year contract), Irish Professional Photographers Association (IPPA)

Location: Dublin 12

The Irish Professional Photographers Association (IPPA) founded in 1949 has been serving the interests of professional photographers and dedicating itself to the improvement of their standards in Ireland for over half a century. Irish Professional Photographers Association members are dedicated and competent full-time photographers, who are qualified, registered and insured professionals.

The Irish Professional Photographers Association is a qualified association and awards fellowship (F.I.P.P.A), associateship (A.I.P.P.A) and licentiateship (L.I.P.P.A) qualifications to its members. The IPPA are members of the Federation of European Professional Photographers and the World Council of Professional Photographers, and maintain close links to other associations in Northern Ireland, Britain, Europe and the United States.

The position

The IPPA wishes to appoint an experienced individual to the newly created position of development director. The successful appointee will lead the next phase of development for the Association, implementing the development programme energetically and with measurable results in terms of public understanding and appreciation of the work of professional photographers in Ireland. The development director will report to the management council of the Association and will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and development of the Association.

The Director will have responsibility for dealing with sales and marketing, education, information and press and public relations activities.

Key tasks

  • Organise a wide range of events, such as annual awards, October conference, seminars, workshops, Council and regional meetings.
  • Drive forward and enhance the general and trade membership recruitment campaign.
  • Seek out promotional and sponsorship opportunities where appropriate to support the activities of the Association.
  • Oversee and contribute to the development and content of the IPPA website so that it is an excellent source of information on all IPPA programmes and activities and facilitate the delivery of on-line membership services.
  • Oversee the IPPA Happy Faces Day promotion initiative.
  • Maintain all records and budgets relating to these activities.

Applicants must have or demonstrate:

  • Third level qualification in either public relations, marketing, event management or an equivalent discipline and at least three years relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge and interest in the Irish media, marketing, event management and public relations
  • Proven knowledge of budget management and evaluation techniques
  • Excellent organisation and administrative skills with strong IT skills and a high level of computer literacy. An understanding of Mac applications would be an advantage
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability and confidence to build networks and relationships at all levels
  • Capable of working on own initiative to manage a diverse workload and deliver high quality completed projects to tight deadlines
  • Experience of leading change and evidence of deployment of drive, vision and ambition
  • Understanding of the Irish photography industry and issues facing that industry
  • A flexible attitude to the changing needs of the role and the needs of the IPPA.
